New figures show householders in Bristol could reduce their energy bills by £160 by insulating their roofs and walls.

The Department of Environment and Climate Change found homes in the city lost £3.5million in 2009 through not having proper insulation.

Professional installation of loft and cavity wall insulation combined costs about £500, which could save an average household around £160 off its heating bills every year.

On Saturday(6th March) the Government's ACT ON CO2 campaign will be at Cabot Circus giving residents a free household 'energy MOT'. They say they'll be able to give simple, practical advice to help stay warm and save money at the same time. Organisors say experts will be on hand to chat with locals about their homes and give tailored advice on the steps that can be taken to reduce their carbon footprint as well as other ways of saving heat and money.  A driving simulator will demonstrate how simply changing a few car habits can save money as well as reduce carbon emissions.

'Energy Doctor' Ian Hutchcroft, says: "The benefits of insulation are instant, and it's very easy to arrange and simple to install. Insulating your home properly keeps you warm, cuts your energy bills, and is an easy way of significantly lowering your carbon footprint."
