Stephen Hampton from Keynsham and Steven Ayres from St George are back after being fined in India.

There have been tears as the pair arrived back in Keynsham today to meet the press at the British Legion Club in Keynsham.

They were arrested last month on suspicion of illegally monitoring aircraft in India.

Suspicions were raised by staff at the hotel they were staying at near Delhi when they asked for a room with a view of the airport runway.

They always insisted they were plane spotting but later arrested on suspicion of illegally monitoring aircraft.

Mr Ayres and Mr Hampton were kept at a detention centre before the case was eventually heard in court on Friday.

They pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of breaking the Indian Telegraph Act and were fined about £365 each before being released.

The manufacturer of the box that they were accused of using for spying and later confiscated, has said he will give them another one for free.

At the press conference earlier, they said they would have to pay about £10,000 in fines and costs, including the cost of an extra 16 nights at the original hotel they were staying at.

Despite their ordeal, Steven Ayres said "the experience doesn't mean I'll give up my hobby."

Stephen Hampton added:

"I've been doing it for 20 years and I'm not going to stop this.  Some countries, they encourage plane spotting, like Japan.  You go to any airport in Japan and they have even got holes in the fence to put your camera lense through."
