Bristol City have signed Vokes on a 5 month loan deal

The 20-year-old striker has been brought in to help the Robins ease their injury wows ahead of the new season.

Star players including Nicky Maynard and new signing Nicky Hunt are joined by several others in the medical room at the moment. Only thirteen players were fit enough to train earlier this week, with just two days to go until the start of the new season.

Sam Vokes said the move is a great opportunity for him: "It's a great move for me because I need to play some games and there's no better place than this to come."

"It's a great club to be at and hopefully I'll get some goals along the way. I know about the injury crisis that has hit the club. It's an ongoing thing but I hope to come and help out.

"I've played quite a few pre-season games for Wolves and feel fit and ready to go."

He added: "Bristol isn't too far away from Bournemouth and I know a lot about the club. I've played against City a number of times, both with Wolves and Bournemouth, and I've been linked with the club in the past.

"I've got three years left on my contract at Wolves. This is a chance for me to play some games and hopefully impress the management at Bristol City; we'll have to see how the loan goes."

Rumours circulating today suggesting Michael Owen could be on his way to Ashton Gate have been dismissed by Steve Coppell.

Reports on the web stated the Manchester United striker has been approached by the club.

But Steve Coppell has laughed off the claims - saying it's just fantasy island stuff.
