Rovers face Leyton Orient at the Mem, City face Preston at Deepdale

We may still be in the middle of the Ashes, but the football league season kicks off this afternoon.

Bristol Rovers begin their campaign at home against Leyton Orient.

Defender Steve Elliott will miss the game with a thigh injury.

New midfielder Dominic Blizzard may also be out with a virus.

Meanwhile, Bristol City travel to Deepdale for their season opener against Preston.

City are likely to feature at least three new signings: Paul Hartley in central midfield, with Danny Haynes up front and Dean Gerken in goal.

Scotland's Hartley, who's a former Celtic midfielder is the most high profile arrival, and says the club is aiming for big things this year.
