The England goal keeper says he has no intention of leaving Bristol City after the resignation of Steve Coppell.

The 40-year-old originally said that Steve Coppell was one of the main reasons why he chose to move out of the Premiership and to Aston Gate.

However, David James has stated that he is still committed to the club but was shocked by Coppell's decision to leave after just two games in charge.

There had been some speculation that the England goalkeeper might be next to leave the club on the back of Coppell's exit.

But James has held talks with new boss Keith Millen which have been described as "positive" about his future with the Robins.

On the club's website David said: "I spoke with Keith Millen on Thursday to find out where he was going to go and it was all very positive, very good.

"It was interesting (on Thursday). I was surprised of course. The conversation I had with the manager (Coppell) a week ago was very positive and encouraging. I was surprised but that's football.

"The manager when I joined had a good pedigree as a Championship manager and he obviously took Reading into the Premier League.

"The situation with Keith (Millen) is a new one with the inexperience he's got, but going by his results at the end of last season and the way we were organised at Doncaster, it should be good."
