Rovers suffered their third heavy defeat of the season to promotion favourites Southampton.
Paul Trollope's side were two goals down by half time after a volley from Jose Fonte and a close range shot from Adam Lallana put the visitors ahead at the Memorial Stadium.
Former Rovers striker Rickie Lambert added to the scoring from the penalty spot in the second half after Danny Coles fouled Lee Barnard.
Barnard then completed the victory with the fourth goal in stoppage time.
The next match for the Gas is bottom of the table Brentford next Saturday.
