The England goalkeeper is gearing himself up for his expected debut for the club this weekend.

The 40-year-old has been training with his new team after signing a one year deal at Ashton Gate.

It's understood Steve Coppell will bring him in for their first game of the new season on Saturday, when they face Millwall at home.

James told us he's looking forward to taking on the newly promoted side:

"They're going to be full of life I'm sure, looking to show the Championship what they're about. But the training's been good in the last couple of days, the lads seem in good spirits.

First game of the season; hopefully it'll be sunny and three points - that's it."

After an international career with 53 caps for England and life in the Premiership, David seems pretty keen for another go at Championship football:

"I had six months in the Championship at West Ham. I'm not saying these are the same sides as then. I've got to watch what I say here because everyone wants to be in the Premiership because it's fantastic. But there's some bad games in the Premiership, it's not all Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal. The reality is they're games of football, they have to be won. It doesn't matter how you win them, that's what we've got to be ready for."

Saturday's game against Millwall kicks off at 3pm at Ashton Gate.
