Thursday, August 19th 2010 06:00

After months of nervously waiting, the results for this year's A-Levels in Bristol will be revealed today.

Today, thousands of teenagers will find out whether all that hard work has paid off, or whether they should have done a bit more cramming.

There have been a record number of people sitting the exams in the city this year.

Figures from Bristol City Council for the six local authority run 6th forms show that 650 students were enrolled to sit the exams this year.

Last year 555 pupils were registered for A-Levels and in 2008 it was only 435.

These figures don't include private 6th forms or academy schools.

For some, finding out the results today is just the beginning, as many will be waiting to hear if they've done enough to secure a place at university.

Application rates have rocketed this year, with thousands set to miss out on a place even if they have the right grades.

The University of Bristol has already said that it's full and will not be open for clearing.

It received 34,100 applications for the 3,280 undergraduate places available.

The University of the West of England has seen a 27% rise in the number of applications, but will have some limited spaces available through the clearing process.

Their team of advisers will be on hand over the phone from 7am to help people through the process. They expect to take over 7,000 calls today.

To contact them you can call  0117 32 83333.
