The number of people visiting the dentist in Bristol is increasing with a quarter of a million check ups in the last two years.

According to official figures the number of people who have seen an NHS dentist in Bristol since April 2006 has continued to increase above the national average.  

The report, NHS Dental Statistics for England, finds that the percentage of the population who saw an NHS dentist in Bristol has risen from 56% in March 2006 to 60% in December 2009.   This is above the national average of 55%.

It also reveals more children than ever are being seen by a dentist, with 60,000 children, 83% of the population, being seen by 31st December 2009, compared to just 78% in March 2006.

In total, Bristol's dental practices saw over 250,000 adult and child patients in the last 24 months.

At the moment there are 51 dental practices in Bristol but five more are set to open across the city by the end of this year.
