A planning application's been submitted for a Jamie Oliver restaurant in Bristol.
Plans have been passed to Bristol City Council which could see the celebrity chef open his first restaurant in Bristol.
There are already eight Jamie's Italians in the UK including one in Milsom Place in Bath which opened in October 2008.
The proposed location for Jamie’s Italian is 89 Park Street, Clifton, in a distinctive historic building and part of a listed Georgian terrace on the corner of Park Street and Berkeley Square near the University of Bristol’s Wills Memorial Building. Subject to planning consent and a complete refurbishment of the building the new restaurant could be up and running by early 2011.
Developers say that from March the current occupiers, Blackwells Bookshop, which operates from 89 Park Street and the property next door, will remain trading from 87 Park Street.
The planning application for 89 Park Street has been made jointly by the building owner FiveMews Properties and Jamie’s Italian Ltd.
Rob Dyer of FiveMews said: "Jamie’s Italian had been looking for an interesting building of character in a prominent Bristol location and 89 Park Street proved the perfect fit. A Jamie’s Italian would be a major coup
for Park Street and the city as a whole. We are delighted to be working with them and very much hope that together we can successfully get the go ahead from the planners and make this happen.
Mike Orr of CSJ Planning Consultants, added: "Jamie Oliver, an internationally famous chef, wishes to invest in a 25 year lease and approximately a £1 million restaurant fit out at 89 Park Street. Such investment is likely to bring significant ‘spin off’ benefits and the regeneration impact and increased footfall with around 3,500 – 4,000
customers a week should not be underestimated.”
