Plenty of sunshine has been forecast for the weekend and it's thought thousands of people will be trying to make the most of the last weekend getaway before the kids go back to school.
Dave Sledge, Area manager at the Highways Agency, says measures are in place to help keep everybody moving: "We make sure our traffic officers are ready to attend any people who gets into trouble, if they break down or there's an incident.
"And as much as possible, we make sure that all of our road works are removed these very busy routes down to Devon and Cornwell in the South West."
He added planning is key to any journey: "Check the routes for delays so you know what you're coming up against. Then you've got the choice of waiting until those queues go down or you can prepare yourselves for the extra time it's going to take to get down."
