Tuesday, August 24th 2010 06:00

Thousands of pupils across Bristol will receive their results today.

Year 11 students will find out how they've done after all the course work and exams today.

Later the 16-year-olds will be able to decide what to do next, whether it's going on to sixth form, college or in to the world of work.

It's thought this year will be another record breaker for GCSE results after the highest ever pass rate for A-Levels last week.

Provisional figures show that Cotham School has seen a 8% increase on last year's results in the number of students getting
five or more GCSEs at A* to C

One school in Bristol will be celebrating their first exam results after becoming an academy.

Steve Taylor is Principal at the Bristol Met who told us academies are helping improve results across the city: "I think that's very fair to say. I know principles at other academies in Bristol. I think the key is we've got some talent people working very hard who put the kids first.

"You can't really suggest that the academies programme in Bristol isn't working. The results are happening all around us. Bristol is a local authority and as an area is steadily doing a lot better."
